Standing up in those days
Mary traveled to the hill country
with haste to a town of Judah,
and she entered the home of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
As Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting
the baby leaped in the womb,
and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit;
she cried out with a great shout and said,
"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
Why is this for me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?
For look, as the sound of your greeting came into my ears,
the baby leaped in gladness in my womb.
Blessed is she who believed that
what has been spoken to her from the Lord will be completed."
Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit is glad in God my savior;
for he looked upon the humble state of his servant.
For look, from now on
all generations will consider me blessed,
because the powerful one did great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his mercy is on generations and generations revering him.
He did a mighty deed with his arm,
scattered the proud in the understanding of their hearts,
brought down the powerful from thrones
and lifted up the humble;
he filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
He took the part of Israel his servant, remembering mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his seed forever."
Mary stayed with her about three months,
and returned to her home.
