And large crowds were traveling with him,
and turning he said to them, "If anyone comes to me
and does not hate his father and mother
and wife and children and brothers and sisters,
and even his own life also,
one cannot be my disciple.
"Whoever does not bear one's cross
and come after me cannot be my disciple.
"For which of you intending to build a tower
does not first sit so one may calculate the cost,
whether one has enough for completion?
lest when one has laid a foundation and is not able to finish
all those seeing will begin to make fun of one, saying,
'This person began to build and was not able to finish.'
"Or what king going to attack another king in war
will not first sit so he may decide
whether he is able with ten thousand
to oppose the one with twenty thousand coming upon him?
If not, while he is still far away,
sending an embassy he asks for peace.
"So also everyone of you who does not give up
all one's possessions cannot be my disciple.
"Therefore salt is fine;
but if even the salt becomes tasteless,
with what will it be seasoned?
Neither for soil nor for manure is it fit;
they throw it out.
Let the one having ears to hear hear."
