In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and God was the Word.
This was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him,
and without him not one thing has come to be.
In him was life,
and the life was the light of human beings;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not comprehended it.
It was the true light coming into the world
which enlightens every person.
He was in the world,
and the world through him came to be,
and the world did not know him.
He came to his own,
and his own did not accept him.
But as many as did accept him,
he gave them authority to become children of God,
to those believing in his name,
who were born not from blood nor from the will of flesh
nor from the will of man, but from God.
The Word became flesh and resided among us,
and we saw his glory,
glory as the one who came from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
For from his fullness we all received,
and grace upon grace;
for the law was given through Moses;
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God;
the only born God who is in the breast of the Father,
that one has made him known.
