And as he was entering Capernaum, a centurion approached him,
pleading with him and saying, "Lord,
my boy has been laid up in the house paralyzed,
suffering terribly."
He says to him, "I will go heal him."
But the centurion answering said, "Lord,
I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof;
but only say the word, and my boy will be cured.
For I am a person under authority, having soldiers under me,
and I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes,
and to another, 'Come,' and he comes,
and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does.
And Jesus having heard marveled and said to those following,
"Amen, I tell you, from no one in Israel have I found such faith.
And I tell you that many will come from east and west,
and will recline with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob
in the sovereignty of heaven;
but the sons of the sovereignty
will be thrown out into the outer darkness;
there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth."
And Jesus said to the centurion,
"Go, as you believed let it be for you."
And the boy was cured at that hour.
Matthew 8:5-13
When he completed all his sayings
in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.
And a certain centurion's servant, who was valued by him,
being ill was about to die.
And having heard about Jesus he sent to him Jewish elders,
asking him to come so that he might save his servant.
And coming to Jesus they pleaded with him urgently,
saying, "He is worthy for whom you should grant this;
for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us."
And Jesus went with them.
And while he was not far from the house,
the centurion sent friends to him
saying, "Lord, do not bother;
for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
which is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to you;
but say the word, and let my boy be cured.
For I am a person appointed under authority,
having soldiers under me,
and I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes,
and to another, 'Come,' and he comes,
and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does.
And having heard this Jesus marveled at him,
and turning to the crowd following him
he said, "I tell you, not in Israel have I found such faith."
And returning to the house
the ones sent found the servant healthy.
And it happened on the next day
that he went into a town called Nain,
and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him.
And as he came near the gate of the town,
look, a mother's only son having died was being carried out,
and she was a widow,
and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.
And seeing her the Lord felt compassion for her
and said to her, "Do not cry."
And approaching he touched the coffin,
and the bearers stood still,
and he said, "Young man, I tell you, arise."
And the one dead sat up and began to speak,
and he gave him to his mother.
And fear took hold of them all,
and they praised God saying,
"A great prophet has arisen among us,"
and "God has visited his people."
And this word about him went out
throughout Judea and all the region around.
