And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and Herodians
so that they might catch him by a word.
And coming they say to him,
"Teacher, we know that you are honest
and you don't care about anyone's opinion;
for you don't look at the appearance of people,
but teach truthfully the way of God;
is it permitted to pay tax to Caesar or not?
Should we pay or shouldn't we?"

But aware of their hypocrisy
he said to them, "Why are you testing me?
Bring me a coin so that I may see it."

And they brought it.
And he says to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?

And they said to him, "Caesar's."

And Jesus said to them,
"Pay back Caesar's things to Caesar
and God's things to God."
And they were amazed at him.
Mark 12:13-17

Then going the Pharisees took advice
how they might trap him on a word.
And they send to him their disciples with the Herodians
saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest
and teach the way of God in truth,
and you don't care about anyone's opinion,
for you don't look at the appearance of people;
therefore tell us, what do you think?
Is it permitted to pay tax to Caesar or not?"

But Jesus aware of their malice
said, "Why are you testing me, hypocrites?
Show me the coin of the tax."

And they brought him a coin.
And he says to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?"

They say, "Caesar's."

Then he says to them,
"Then pay back Caesar's things to Caesar
and God's things to God."
And hearing they marveled,
and leaving him they went away.
Matthew 22:15-22

And watching carefully they sent spies
who were pretending to be just,
so that they might catch him by a word,
in order to give him over
to the rule and authority of the governor.

"And they questioned him saying, "Teacher,
we know that you speak and teach correctly
and do not regard appearance,
but truthfully teach the way of God;
is it permitted for us to pay tax to Caesar or not?"

But noticing their cunning he said to them,
"Show me a coin; whose image and inscription does it have?"

And they said, "Caesar's."

And he said to them,
"So pay back Caesar's things to Caesar
and God's things to God."

And they could not catch him by his saying
in the presence of the people,
and marveling at his answer they were silent.
Luke 20:20-26

They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him,
"Caesar's people demand taxes from us."

He said to them, "Give Caesar's things to Caesar;
give God's things to God;
and give me what is mine."
Thomas 100

And Sadducees come to him,
who say there is no resurrection,
and they questioned him saying, "Teacher,
Moses wrote for us that if someone's brother dies
and leaves behind a wife and no child,
that the brother should take his wife
and raise up seed for his brother.
There were seven brothers;
and the first took a wife, and dying he left no seed;
and the second took her, and he died leaving behind no seed;
and the third similarly; and the seven left no seed.
Last of all the wife died too.
In the resurrection, when they rise again,
whose wife will she be?
For the seven had her as a wife."

Jesus said to them, "Do you not go astray because of this
not knowing the scriptures or the power of God?
For when they rise again from the dead,
they neither marry nor are they given in marriage,
but they are like angels in heaven.

"Concerning the dead that they are raised,
have you not read in the book of Moses
at the part about the bush how God said to him saying,

I am the God of Abraham
and the God of Isaac
and the God of Jacob?

He is not God of the dead but of the living.
You are going far astray."
Mark 12:18-27

On that day Sadducees approached him,
who say there is no resurrection,
and they questioned him saying, "Teacher, Moses said,
'If someone dies without having children,
his brother shall marry his wife
and raise up seed for his brother.'
And there are among us seven brothers;
and the first having married died,
and not having seed he left his wife to his brother;
likewise also the second and the third, up to the seventh.
And last of all the woman died.
In the resurrection then,
to which of the seven will she be wife?
For they all had her."

And Jesus answering said to them, "You go astray
not knowing the scriptures or the power of God.
For in the resurrection they neither marry
nor are they given in marriage,
but they are like angels in heaven.

"But concerning the resurrection of the dead
have you not read what was said to you by God,

I am the God of Abraham
and the God of Isaac
and the God of Jacob?

He is not the God of the dead but of the living."
And the crowds hearing were astonished at his teaching.
Matthew 22:23-33

And some of the Sadducees,
who deny there is a resurrection,
approaching questioned him saying, "Teacher,
Moses wrote for us that
if someone's brother dies having a wife,
and he is childless, his brother should take the wife
and raise up seed for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers;
and the first having taken a wife died childless;
and the second and the third took her,
and similarly also the seven did not leave children and died.
Finally the woman died too.
The woman then, in the resurrection
whose wife does she become?
For the seven had her as a wife?"

And Jesus told them,
"The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,
but those considered worthy of attaining that age
and the resurrection of the dead
neither marry nor are given in marriage;
for they can no longer die,
for they are equal to angels
and they are sons of God beings sons of the resurrection.

"But that the dead are raised,
even Moses made known at the part about the bush,
as he calls the Lord
God of Abraham and God of Isaac and God of Jacob;
he is not God of the dead but of the living;
for to him everyone lives."

And some of the scholars answering
said, "Teacher, well said."
For they no longer dared to question him about anything.
Luke 20:27-40

And one of the scholars approaching,
having heard them debating,
aware that he answered them well, questioned him,
"What is the foremost of all the commandments?"

Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'Hear, Israel,
the Lord our God is one Lord,
and you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart
and from your whole soul and from your whole intelligence
and from your whole strength.'

"Second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:28-31

The Pharisees hearing that he silenced the Sadducees,
gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer,
questioned him testing him,
"Teacher, what commandment in the law is great?"

And he said to him,
"'You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart
and with your whole soul and with your whole intelligence.'
This is the great and foremost commandment.

"The second is like it:
'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
On these two commandments
hang the whole law and the prophets."
Matthew 22:34-40

Jesus said, "Love your brother as your soul;
keep him like the apple of your eye."
Thomas 25

And the scholar said to him, "Beautifully said, teacher,
in truth you say that there is one
and there is no other except him;
and the love for him from the whole heart
and from the whole intelligence and from the whole strength
and the love for the neighbor as oneself
is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices."

And Jesus, seeing that he answered intelligently,
said to him, "You are not far from the sovereignty of God."
And no one dared to question him any more.
Mark 12:32-34

Jesus said, "Whoever is near me is near the fire,
and whoever is far from me is far from the sovereignty."
Thomas 82

And Jesus answering said teaching in the temple,
"How is it that the scholars say
that the Christ is the son of David?
David himself said in the Holy Spirit,

The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit on my right until I
put your enemies under your feet.

David himself calls him Lord, so from where is he his son?"
And the large crowd listened to him gladly.
Mark 12:35-37

And the Pharisees being gathered together
Jesus questioned them saying,
"What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?"

They say to him, "David's."

He says to them, "How is it then
that David in the Spirit calls him Lord saying,

The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit on my right until I
put your enemies under your feet?

If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?"

And no one was able to answer him a word
nor did anyone dare from that day to question him any more.
Matthew 22:41-46

And he said to them, "How is it that
they say the Christ is son of David?
For David himself says in the Book of Psalms,

The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit on my right until I
put your enemies as a footstool for your feet.

Therefore David calls him Lord, and how is he his son?"
Luke 20:41-44
