Luke 19:1-28
Matthew 25:14-30

And having entered Jericho he passed through.
And look, a man named Zacchaeus,
and he was a chief tax collector, and he was rich;
and he tried to see who Jesus was,
and he was not able to from the crowd,
because he was short in height.

And running ahead in front
he climbed up on a sycamore tree,
so that he might see him,
for he was about to pass through that way.

And as he came upon the place,
looking up Jesus said to him,
"Zacchaeus, hurry, come down;
for I must stay in your house today."

And hurrying he came down, and welcomed him gladly.
And everyone seeing grumbled
saying that he went to lodge with a sinful man.
And standing Zacchaeus said to the Lord, "Look, Lord,
half of my possessions I give to the poor,
and if I have extorted something from someone,
I pay back fourfold."

And Jesus said to him,
"Today salvation has come to this house,
because even he is a son of Abraham;
for the human son came to seek and save the lost."

And as they were listening to this,
he went on to tell a parable,
because he was near Jerusalem and they were thinking
that the sovereignty of God was about to appear at once;
therefore he said, "A certain person of noble birth
traveled to a far country
to receive a kingdom for himself and return.

"And calling ten of his servants he gave them ten minas,
and he said to them, 'Do business until I come.'

"But his citizens hated him,
and sent a delegation after him
saying, 'We do not want this person to be king over us.'

"And it happened on his return having received the kingdom
that he declared those servants to be called to him
to whom he had given the money,
so that he might know what business they had transacted.

"And the first arrived saying,
'Lord, your one mina has earned ten minas.'

"And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant,
since with the smallest you have been faithful,
you are to have authority over ten cities.'

"And the second came saying,
'Your mina, lord, made five minas.'

"And he said to this one also,
'And you are to be over five cities.'

"And another came saying, 'Lord, look, your mina,
which I had put away in a handkerchief;
for I feared you, because you are a strict person,
taking what you did not put in,
and reaping what you did not sow.'

"He says to him,
'Out of your mouth I will judge you, bad servant.
Did you know that I am a strict person,
taking what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?
And why did you not give my money on the banker's table?
And I coming would have collected it with interest.'

"And to those standing by he said, 'Take from him the mina
and give it to the one having ten minas.'

"And they said to him, 'Lord, he has ten minas.'

"'I tell you that to everyone having it will be given,
and from the one not having even what one has will be taken.
Nevertheless bring here those enemies of mine,
the ones not wanting me to be king over them,
and slaughter them in front of me.'"

And having said these things
he traveled in front going up to Jerusalem.
Luke 19:1-28

"For just like a person going away from home
called his own servants and gave over to them his possessions,
and to one he gave five talents, and to another two,
and to another one, each according to his ability,
and he left home.

"Immediately proceeding the one receiving five talents
traded with them and gained five more;
similarly the one with two gained two more.
But the one receiving one going away dug into the ground
and hid the silver of his lord.

"And after a long time the lord of those servants comes
and settles accounts with them.
And the one who received five talents
approaching brought five more talents
saying, 'Lord, you gave over five talents to me;
look, I have gained five more talents.'

"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant,
over a few things you were faithful,
I will put you in charge of many;
come in to the joy of your lord.'

"Approaching also the one with two talents said,
'Lord, you gave over two talents to me;
look, I have gained two more talents.'

"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant,
over a few things you were faithful,
I will put you in charge of many;
come in to the joy of your lord.'

"And approaching also the one who received one talent said,
'Lord, knowing you that you are a strict person,
reaping where you did not sow,
and gathering where you did not scatter;
and being afraid going away I hid your talent in the ground;
look, you have yours.'

"But his lord answering said to him, 'Bad and lazy servant,
did you know that I reap where I did not sow,
and gather from where I did not scatter?
Therefore you must deposit my silver with the bankers,
and coming I would have earned what is mine with interest.
So take from him the talent
and give it to the one who has ten talents;
for to everyone who has it will be given,
and one will have abundance;
but from the one not having
even what one has will be taken away from one.
And throw out the useless servant into the outer darkness;
there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.'
