And passing along he saw a person blind from birth.
And his disciples asked him saying, "Rabbi, who sinned,
this one or his parents, that he was born blind?"
Jesus answered, "Neither this one nor his parents sinned,
but it happened so that
the works of God may be manifested in him.
We must do the works of the one who sent me while it is day;
night is coming when no one can work.
While in the world, I am the light of the world."
Having said this, he spat on the ground
and made mud out of the saliva, and put mud on his eyes,
and said to him, "Go wash in the pool of Siloam"
(which is translated "Sent").
So he went away and washed, and came seeing.
Therefore the neighbors and the ones seeing him
before when he was a beggar,
said, "Isn't this the one who sits and begs?"
Others said, "This is the one."
Others said, "No, but he is like him."
That one answered, "A person called Jesus made mud
and anointed my eyes and told me, 'Go to Siloam and wash;'
so going away and washing I gained sight."
And they said to him, "Where is that one?"
He says, "I don't know."
They lead him to the Pharisees, the one blind at one time.
And it was a Sabbath on the day
Jesus made mud and opened his eyes.
Therefore the Pharisees also asked him again
how he gained sight.
And he said to them, "He put mud on my eyes,
and I washed, and I see."
Therefore some of the Pharisees said,
"This person is not from God,
for he does not keep the Sabbath."
But others said, "How can a sinful person do such miracles?"
And there was a division among them.
So they said to the blind one again,
"What do you say about him, since he opened your eyes?"
And he said, "He is a prophet."
Yet the Jews did not believe about him
that he was blind and gained sight,
until they called the parents of the one who gained sight,
and asked them saying, "Is this your son,
whom you say was born blind?
How then does he see now?"
So his parents answered and said,
"We know that this is our son and that he was born blind;
but how he now sees we do not know,
or who opened his eyes we do not know;
ask him; he is of age; he will speak about himself."
This his parents said because they feared the Jews;
for already the Jews had agreed
that if anyone should acknowledge him as Christ,
he would be expelled from the synagogue.
Because of this his parents said,
"He is of age; question him."
So they called the person who was blind a second time,
and said to him, "Give praise to God;
we know that this person is sinful."
So that one answered, "I don't know if he is sinful;
one thing I know, that being blind now I see."
So they said to him, "What did he do to you?
How did he open your eyes?"
He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen;
why do you want to hear it again?
Do you want to become his disciples too?"
And they berated him and said,
"You are a disciple of that one,
but we are disciples of Moses;
we know that God has spoken to Moses,
but we don't know where this one is from."
The person answered and said to them,
"Then in this is the marvelous thing,
that you don't know where he is from, and he opened my eyes.
We know that God does not listen to the sinful;
however if someone is godly and does his will,
he listens to him.
From eternity it has not been heard of
that anyone opened the eyes of one born blind;
if this one were not from God, he could not do anything."
They answered and said to him,
"You were born completely in sin, and do you teach us?"
And they threw him outside.
Jesus heard that they threw him outside,
and finding him he said, "Do you believe in the human son?"
That one answered and said, "Who is he, lord,
that I may believe in him?"
Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him
and the one speaking with you is that one."
And he said, "I believe, Lord;" and he worshipped him.
And Jesus said, "For judgment I came into the world,
so that the ones not seeing may see
and the ones seeing may become blind."
The Pharisees who were with him heard these things
and said to him, "Are we blind too?"
Jesus said to them, "If you were blind,
you would not have sin;
but now that you say, 'We see;' your sin remains.
