John 7:1

And the Pharisees and some of the scholars
coming from Jerusalem were gathering by him.
And seeing that some of his disciples
eat bread with common hands, that is, unwashed,
(for the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat
unless they wash their hands with the fist,
holding to the tradition of the elders,
and they do not eat from markets unless they rinse,
and they hold to many other things which they received,
washing of cups and pitchers and copper pots,)
and the Pharisees and the scholars questioned him,
"Why don't your disciples walk
according to the traditions of the elders,
but eat bread with common hands?"

And he said to them, "Isaiah prophesied well
about you hypocrites, as it has been written:

This people honors me with the lips,
but their heart is far away from me;
and in vain they worship me,
teaching as teachings the commands of people.

Letting go of the commandment of God
you hold to the tradition of people."

And he said to them,
"Well have you set aside the commandment of God,
that you may keep your tradition.
For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,'
and, 'Let whoever speaks evil of his father or mother
be put to death.'

"But you say, 'If a person says to his father or mother:
"Corban (which is a gift) for whatever
you might have benefited from me;"'
you no longer let one do anything for one's father or mother,
nullifying the word of God
by your tradition which you have received;
and you do many such similar things."

And again calling to him the crowd he said to them,
"Everyone listen to me and understand.
There is nothing outside of a person
which entering into one can defile one;
but the things coming out of a person
are the things defiling a person."

And when he went into the house away from the crowd,
his disciples questioned him about the parable.

And he says to them, "Are you also so unintelligent?
Do you not understand that
everything outside entering into a person cannot defile one,
because it does not enter into one's heart but into the stomach,
and goes out into the latrine, purifying all foods?"

And he said, "The thing coming out from a person,
that defiles the person.
For from within come out the bad thoughts
from the heart of people:
fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,
greeds, malice, deceit, lewdness,
an evil eye, slanders, arrogance, foolishness;
all these evils come out from within and defile a person."
Mark 7:1-23

Then from Jerusalem Pharisees and scholars
approach Jesus saying,
"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders?
For they do not wash their hands whenever they eat bread."

And answering he said to them, "And why do you
break the commandment of God because of your tradition?
For God said, 'Honor your father and mother,'
and, 'Let whoever speaks evil of father or mother
be put to death.'

"But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother:
"Whatever you might have been benefited from me is a gift,"
shall not honor his father or his mother;'
and you nullified the word of God because of your tradition.

"Hypocrites, Isaiah prophesied well about you saying:

This people honors me with the lips,
but their heart is far away from me;
and in vain they worship me,
teaching as teachings the commands of people."

And calling to the crowd he said to them,
"Listen and understand;
what enters into the mouth does not defile a person,
but what comes out from the mouth, this defiles a person."

Then the disciples approaching say to him, "Do you know
that the Pharisees who heard the word were offended?"

And answering he said, "Every plant
that my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted.
Let them go; they are blind guides of the blind;
and if the blind guide the blind,
they will both fall into a ditch."

And answering Peter said to him, "Explain to us the parable."

And he said, "Are you also so unintelligent?
Do you not understand that everything entering into the mouth
moves into the belly and is thrown out into a latrine?

"But what comes out of the mouth comes out of the heart,
and those defile a person.
For out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murders,
adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, slanders.
These are what defiles a person;
but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a person."
Matthew 15:1-20

Jesus said, "If a blind man leads a blind man,
both of them fall into a ditch."
Thomas 34

Jesus said to them, "If you fast,
you will beget sin for yourselves;
and if you pray, you will be condemned;
and if you give charity, you will do harm to your spirits.

"And if you go into any land and travel in the country,
if they welcome you, eat what they set before you,
heal the sick among them.
For what enters your mouth will not defile you;
but what comes out of your mouth,
that is what will defile you."
Thomas 14

And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee;
for he did not wish to walk in Judea,
because the Jews were trying to kill him.
John 7:1
