Mark 1:7-8
Matthew 3:11-12
Luke 3:15-18
John 1:6-8
John 1:15-34

And he preached saying, "One stronger than I comes after me,
of whom I am not worthy to bend down
and untie the straps of his sandals.
I baptized you with water,
but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
Mark 1:7-8

"I baptize you with water for repentance;
but the one coming after me is stronger than I,
whose sandals I am not worthy to carry;
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire;
his winnowing fork is in his hand,
and he will clean out his threshing floor,
and he will gather his wheat into the storehouse,
but the chaff he will burn with inextinguishable fire."
Matthew 3:11-12

As the people were in expectation
and all were considering in their hearts concerning John,
whether he might be the Christ,
John answered to all saying, "I baptize you with water;
but one comes who is stronger than I,
of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals;
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire;
his winnowing fork is in his hand
to clean out his threshing floor
and to gather the wheat into his storehouse,
but the chaff he will burn with inextinguishable fire."
So with many different appeals
he brought the good message to the people.
Luke 3:15-18

There was a person, sent from God, whose name was John;
this one came as a witness,
so that he might testify about the light,
so that all might believe through him.
He was not that light,
but came so that he might testify about the light.
John 1:6-8

John testifies about him and has cried out, saying,
"This is the one of whom I said,

The one coming after me
has become ahead of me,
because he was before me."

For from his fullness we all received, and grace upon grace;
for the law was given through Moses;
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God;
the only born God who is in the breast of the Father,
that one has made him known.

And this is the testimony of John
when the Jews sent to him from Jerusalem priests and Levites
so that they might ask him, "Who are you?"
and he acknowledged and did not deny,
and he acknowledged, "I am not the Christ."

And they asked him, "Who then? Are you Elijah?"

And he says, "I am not."

"Are you the prophet?"

And he answered, "No."

So they said to him, "Who are you?
that we may give an answer to those who sent us;
what do you say about yourself?"

He said, "I am a voice crying in the desert:

Make straight the way of the Lord,

as said Isaiah the prophet."

And the ones sent were from the Pharisees.
And they asked him and said to him, "Why then do you baptize
if you are not the Christ nor Elijah nor the prophet?"

John answered them saying, "I baptize with water;
in the middle of you stands one whom you do not know,
the one coming after me, of whom I am not worthy
that I should untie the strap of his sandal."
These things happened in Bethany beyond the Jordan,
where John was baptizing.

The next day he sees Jesus coming toward him, and says,
"Look, the lamb of God who lifts away the sin of the world!
This is he of whom I said,

After me comes a man
who has become ahead of me,
because he was before me.

And I did not know him,
but that he might be revealed to Israel,
for this reason I came baptizing with water."

And John testified saying,
"I have seen the Spirit coming down as a dove from heaven,
and it remained upon him.
And I had not known him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water,
that one said to me,

On whomever you see the Spirit
coming down and remaining upon him,
this is the one baptizing with the Holy Spirit.

And I have seen,
and I have testified that this is the son of God."
John 1:15-34
